These very fine rugs are produced around the city of Nain in central Iran. This rug has a silk or cotton foundation with a closely clipped wool pile. The pile on Nains made during or before the 1970s was exclusively knotted with high quality wool. The patterns of recently woven Nain rugs, however, are often outlined in luxuriously soft silk. The color scheme on Nains usually consists of ivory, red, orange or green field with blue or beige patterns. The Nain is a highly prized carpet of exquisite workmanship and seemingly priceless value.
